three little words

I probably say these three words the most out of anything else. Sometimes nothing fits a bizarre or unjust situation more than a simple "what the fuck?" Really, my daily life would be incomplete without it. Not "what the hell?", not "what in the world?"...just "WTF?"

Its so indignant and to the point with just the right amount of hostility and bewilderment. For when someone is trying to start shit with you at the grocery store, for the bicyclist who thinks he's also a car, for computer screens freezing, for getting a parking ticket for no good reason, for when a friend does something hilarious, for when a friend does something not so hilarious...

Being late for brunch while being stuck behind this slow moving, exit sign-blocking vehicle...
When my lamp base turned into kitty litter without warning... (seriously wtffff!?)

When you see how chill my cat is...
How much time and energy Emma and I put into our Rockband characters over the summer. (Emma likes leather and chest tats, you guys)
...and now an opportunity for you guys to say it.

Overheard at the auto show

Seriously people need to calm the f down.

Sky

Not to be ghey but sometimes the most beautiful thing ever is the sky. After a week of pouring rain, today the sunset made the clouds and sky turn into some psychadelic ice cream that I couldn't stop staring at. Lavender, pink blue, orange, pastels. I wish it was possible to could capture *exactly* what my eyes see, with my camera.

Smiley sunshine

In fifth grade, we were standing in line according to height waiting to get our school pictures taken, and the tallest boy in our class Brian Wilson turned to the 1st tallest girl (Shaleen Newman), and 3rd tallest girl (Nicole Pieczinski) standing behind me and said "How are you going to smile?" and then "I know how Katherine is going to smile. Like this" and proceeded to drop his smirk into a bored face. The accuracy pissed me off so much.. it was bad enough that my mom made me wear a supergay Laura Ashley dress amongst the sea of hypercolor tees.

Brian Wilson, I thought you were cool when we ruled the tether ball courts but I owe you a slap in the face 19 years in the making.

Gocco Magic

I used my print gocco for the first time to print my '09 Christmas cards, and I wanted to share with all y'all what the process of gocco entails, cause its actually pretty neat despite the fact that it's officially a dead hobby.

Gocco is fairly similar to silkscreening in that you use a fine mesh screen to burn your image upon and run ink through. Some differences:
1. gocco is smaller, and more suitable for card making which it was made for anyway.
2. you press the ink thru like a stamp, instead of pulling it through with a rubber squegee.
3. oil based inks
4. you can simultaneously print more than one color in one run. Amazing.

First you start off with a toner based print out of your design (separated out into different layers if you want to get fancy) and two proprietary RISO flash bulbs that cost a fortune now due to dwindling supplies. (I wasted about six of these bulbs that night before I realized it *was* working and *I* was the idiot. roughly $30 down the drain. ouch.)

Affix the flash bulb holder onto the press and press down.. bulbs flash, and expose your screens.

First screen properly burned, you then ink the screen.

Screen inserted back into the press and in the process of printing the first run...

Once the first run is done, the second screen which will be printed on top is burned and here you see the registration plate print that will help me align everything.

Once properly registered, lock the press down and remove the registration plate. Not wanting to get laid off..Michi participates in quality control at my sweatshop.

Tada!

Katherine Snow Leopard V. 2010

I've always taken new year's resolutions pretty seriously. It may be that being born on Jan 1, I feel the added pressure to re-invent myself with the new year. Or that I just like to be a nazi and think up of new rules for myself.

Some resolutions of the past:
2004: No more Candy.
2006: Katherine says 'No'
2008: Get over it.
2009: It's not called fashionably late, its called being an asshole.

I give myself till the end of January to be wishy washy about the resolutions I may or may not settle on in the end.

The ones at debate:

1. Stop fiddling with items in the car and/or in my bag while driving. This means no more checking email while at a red light, or trying to find a specific song on the ipod as if my car depended on the particular song to provide fuel for the engine or something...no more putting in the address in my navigator while driving..

2. Stop cussing so much. But in all seriousness, I'm not sure I could succeed in this one cause so many unjust situations really just call for a"wtf!?".. and besides, its hilarious sounding. I never realized just how often my friends and I used swear words until I realized I didn't hear it anymore.

3. Be kind. Stop talking shit. Zzzzz....I'm already bored with this one. Snore fest 2010. NEXT!
As Ely once said, you can't get to the top by being nice.

4. Be more assertive. Ugh, how many more times do I have to consider this for a new year's resolution? Boring.

5. Drive way more slower.

6. Keep up with pilates. As in keep exercise in my life.. GEEZUS!

7. Try to cook and be a real adult. Have a friend take away my can openers for a month perhaps.
