When life imitates art

Four People Awkwardly Working in the Open

Michael Holleran

(Carbon, calcium, protein, silicon, rubber, wood on carpet)

This mixed media art piece acts as a commentary on today's Western workforce. Much like the animals that have been displaced due to deforestation, these "coworkers" have been relocated to a temporary habitat while they engage in the tasks they routinely perform. This installation successfully explores the depth of human behavior and how humanity functions, or not functions, in new exposed environments.

Last week our IT guy Michael dragged all our desks and belongings from our office and we had a temporary set up in the commons while our room was being renovated. As you can see I had the worst desk arrangement due to my monitor facing everyone and their grandmas in the halls. It was the worst, felt so exposed.

The rest of our co workers found hilarity in this situation and one of them made a sign for us. We became high art for two days. Then in the blink of an eye we were back in our office on Monday because as you know, the hottest exhibits are fleeting.

  1. This is so amazing. What a fun workplace! I like that it wasn't the typical "see the beast in its natural environment" Ntional Geographic shtick but instead high performance art.
